SEPTEMBER 14, 2021 MEETING OF THE STANLEY COOPER SR CHAPTER OF TROUT UNLIMITED BY ZOOM

With droughts, wildfires, terrible storms and prodigious unprecedented amounts of rain, there would seem to be no better time than now

to review the seminal scientific report on our changing climate.  When I was young, we used to believe that we couldn’t get tornadoes in the East.

Until a few years ago we never heard the amount of rain we were going to get described in the number of inches of rain expected.

Then, water level at seaside changed only with the tide.   Now areas of the American West are in perpetual drought.  Hurricanes are bigger stronger and more numerous.

None of us even knew what a storm surge was.  Just in my adulthood, weather has changed dramatically.  This talk is more of a talk led by J. Scott Brady

not a scientist, grappling to understand what has happened to our world.

Last month the United Nations using hundreds of scientists has come out with their 6th Assessment Report on Climate Change

To follow along and see for yourself, I am working, not off the report itself as it alone is over 1800 pages, nor did I even use the condensed version written by the scientists.

Rather I worked off the “Summary For Policymakers”.   Still written by scientists; even that contains only the highlights of the report and at 39 pages is at least more easily read.

Similar to the part of the iceberg you can see above the water.  This report is pretty sobering stuff.  When I read it I was glad I’m old and not likely to see some of our

future if nothing is done or not enough is done.
